Scotiabank’s Jazz in the Park 2009 was a smashing fundraising party success raising $107,000 for adoption!

Helping with this record breaking amount were over 500 guests and Vancouver’s top Jazz artists that had swing dancers dancing all night in the Caberet Room.  Special thank you’s to Doe Bender, Mimosa, The Sweetpea Swing Band, Sara Zacharias, Timothy Stacey, Miles Black, Jennifer Scott, Gabriel Mark Hasselbach and Alita Dupray for their magic of music.  Celebrity blackjack was also in full swing in the Capones Restaurant Tasting Room with the likes of BC Lions Geroy Simon, Amy Beeman, Kid Carson and Nira Aurora – The Beat, Pam Stevens – Jack FM, Joe Leary Talk 1410 and The Travel Guys.  While the Jazztini’s and Tinhorn Wine were flowing The Ron Sombilon Gallery featured a stunning art exhibition outside on the deck.    Emcee’s Senator Larry Campbell, Vancouver’s Man about Town Fred Lee and Global TV’s Randene Neill kicked off the night with an African Jazz Parade with the lively Drum Café.  The night was also honored with the legendary Jim Byrnes presenting our prestigious jazz awards. The Back Street Lounge was non stop with Tattoos for Now, Photobooth Vancouver, Coquitlam Centre Street Team, Fanny Starchild, Ken Lagerstrom & Dolphina’s readings with Ted Couling’s artistic talent.  The ladies of Sweet Soul Burlesque were also roaming through the crowds with Mugsy and Bunny in prohibition style.   Crowds also were wow’d by the Westcoast Contortionists who provided a surprise side Martini Luge show!  The unique experiences Live Auction was showcased in full force by the Vancouver Fire Fighters and the silent auction premium packages with Air Canada’s trip raffle were in high demand.

The Adoptive Families Association of BC is a charity that supports adoptive families around the province and promotes adoption awareness, as children from babies to teens, need families.  We could not be successful without your generosity and support.  A tremendous thank you to the sponsors, volunteers, event contributors and event staff team for dedicating themselves to this important charity work and making Scotiabank’s Jazz in the Park V a night to remember.

Photos will be up soon on www.ronsombilongallery.com.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers, our deepest thank you, we are grateful to work with such a vibrant and caring community.

Myself and our events team will be in touch over the next few weeks to drop by and personally thank you with a small thank you gift designed by our friends at Ron Sombilon Gallery.  Another art masterpiece for you to enjoy.  I look forward to catching up more with you.

See you at our next signature event, Wine on the Mountain at Grouse Mountain on November 7th!

AFABC

AFABC is a non-profit organization that provides province-wide support services and information to people who are beginning to think about adoption, people who have decided to adopt, and those who have already had a child or children join their family. AFABC also plays a significant role in promoting awareness of the thousands of BC children in the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development, who are waiting for a family.

AFABC was started around a kitchen table in 1977 by a small group of adoptive parents who needed to share ideas, information, and support.
